In Year 4, we are studying how to group and classify animals in Science. Last Friday, we went on an invertebrate hunt around the school. Using plastic spoons, we carefully placed the animals we found on a plate so we could study and record them. In the next lesson, we used classification keys to identify each species we found.
Last week our class took turns throwing beanbags into a bucket to see how our sight helps us. First, we threw the beanbags with both eyes open, then with one eye closed, and finally with both eyes closed. We talked about which way was the easiest, which was the hardest, and how our eyes help us.
We have an exciting assembly coming up on the 15th October with iRock. This is a music assembly and will give the children an opportunity to listen to and play some music and instruments. The end goal of this assembly is to give children the confidence to become musicians. They will also have the opportunity to form a band with other children at Wood End, if they wish to participate further with small group lessons. Our Year 5 keen runners took part in the Ealing borough wide cross country league race on Thursday. Running alongside other Ealing primary and high schools they ran 1.5 kilometers to victory. Races took place on the Berkeley Fields near Horsenden Hill. Well done to all the participants you showed great endurance and were still smiling when they returned to school.
Our school rules are deliberately simple: Ready, Respectful, Safe. They form the backbone of our behaviour policy and help children understand how to make positive choices every day. Whether it’s being ready to learn in class, showing respect to friends, or staying safe in the playground, these three words set clear expectations for everyone.
Using the same language at home can make a real difference. For example, asking “Are you ready for school?” helps children think about being prepared. Talking about whether behaviour is “respectful” helps them reflect on kindness and empathy. And “safe choices” is a powerful phrase for children when thinking about play, friendships, and even online activity.
Together, we can create consistency between home and school, giving children the structure and guidance they need to flourish.
