The vision for Colorado Chapter of Women in GIS was initiated by Emma Dirolf, Sam Dinning, Jen Sherry, and Kendell Ryan in December 2022. The goal of the Colorado Chapter is to bring women in the geospatial field together across the state.
As our member base broadens we are gifted with new ideas and enthusiasm to support people who are often under represented in the geospatial world. Contact us if you'd like to learn more or how you can help our cause.
Women in GIS (WiGIS) is an international, professional, and social advocacy group for women and their allies. The aim of WIGIS is to serve as a safe place for women from all geospatial fields to work towards overcoming:
job discrimination,
lower pay,
professional isolation, and
other common barriers women might face.
We foster relationships and resource sharing among members and institutions.
WiGIS is a consortium of advocates from academia, government, and private industry designed to advance the presence of women in GIS. Activities of the organization include social gatherings, professional development and educational events, and opportunities for networking and mentoring. At a minimum, our goal is to meet quarterly and to engage in constant communication as needed and desired via forums such as the WiGIS website and an email listserv/newsletter.
Meet our COWiGIS Chapter Leads:
Hi, I'm Jen! I've had a local-government career in GIS for 25 years now. Currently I'm with Boulder County Parks and Open Space, but prior was with the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks. I've covered a LOT of GIS bases in that time. I've lived here in Colorado for more than 30 years... long enough that I am now technically native! I am so excited for new opportunites to meet and learn from others in this profession.
Hi, I’m Emma! I have been working in GIS for about a decade, mostly in local government. As a former educator, I love spreading my passion for GIS and creating solutions tailored to organizational needs. I’ve been a member of Women in GIS for many years, but Colorado was lacking a chapter! I am excited to connect with other GIS folks in the area. I love the network, support, and deeper exploration that Women in GIS provides!
Hello! I'm Kendell. I've been in working in the GIS industry for about 23 years, mostly in state and local government. As a somewhat recent transplant to Colorado I've started a new chapter as a Solution Engineer for Esri. I look forward to connecting with a lot more women in our field and supporting the mission of Women in GIS!
