Research has shown that students may lose up to 2.6 months of learning in math.
As the saying goes: Use it or lose it!
☻Play math bingo. Check out this summer math bingo board. Download and print to see how many Bingos your child can get this summer. They can also bring the bingo boards back in the fall to go into a drawing for a new bike. The Masons have again donated two bikes for us to give away in the fall! Read below about how to get into the drawing!
☻Highlight the math in everyday activities. Math is all around us and used everyday. Have your child help halving or doubling a recipe, calculate change or discounts, discuss a baseball player’s stats, weigh produce at the grocery store, divide food among family members, etc.
☻Read short math stories together. When selecting a bedtime story, choose a math-focused story. Children can engage in the math discussion as part of the story.
☻Play math games. Math board games are great way to practice skills while having fun. This summer have fun playing hopscotch math, beach ball math fact toss, fishing for facts, baseball math, and water balloons. Many math games can be with a deck of cards or a pair of dice.
☻Find small ways to practice math at home. We also challenge your child to complete our summer calendar. These small 5 minute a day activities will really pay off in September. Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4. You will need the grade level timings: Grade 1 addition & subtraction, Grade 2 addition & subtraction, Grade 3 and 4 multiplication & division.
