Each trimester in ELA has one main theme as listed below. We will do novel studies as a class as well as independent reading.Â
Unit 1: Meeting Challenges: How does one meet/overcome the challenges one faces?
Reading Comprehension and Interpretation, Grammar/Language and Spelling Skills, Speaking & Listening Discussion, Paragraph Writing and Personal Narrative
Unit 2: Doing the Right Thing: What makes people do the right thing?
Reading Comprehension and Interpretation, Grammar/Language and Spelling Skills, Speaking & Listening Discussion, and Opinion/Persuasive Writing
Unit 3: Contributions of Inventors and Artists
Reading Comprehension and Interpretation, Grammar/Language and Spelling Skills, Speaking & Listening Discussion, and Biography Informative Writing & Research Process
Students are encouraged to read on their own every day. They are expected to read for at least 30 minutes outside of school hours for homework every day. They can select a novel of their choice from either our classroom library or the school library. Of course they can also read a book they have at home or check out from the Wells Public Library.
