At Woburn Public Schools, we're dedicated to making decisions that best support your child's learning. A key part of this process is our data meetings, where educators come together to review student progress and tailor our instruction.
In our elementary schools, we use the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) screening tool, approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, to help guide our teaching. Following a specific cycle, these meetings take place five times a year.
During these meetings, a team of professionals collaborates to review student data. This team includes the school principal, classroom teachers, content and reading specialists, special education staff, multilingual learner teachers, and other support staff as needed. By working together, we ensure every student receives the support they need to succeed.
The beginning of the year data meeting is used to check in and assess the students beginning of the year benchmark data. Teachers can reference 1st grade through fifth grade students' end of year data to see if there was any regression. In this meeting the data team will discuss students DIBELS and access scores. The data team will use the screening data grid to sort students into instructional groups. Once students are placed the data team should match students with instructional materials. The team should also identify who will be progress monitoring students in each student who is identified as needing Progress Monitoring.
