Sandy the Shark Process
The fully completed exoskeleton for the shark.
The first couple of paper mache layers for the shark.
My prototype is a cartoon shark trashcan made of metal beams that provide structural support, aviary wire to provide more structural support and to provide a base where I could put the paper mache on, spray foam to provide a base to put staples and screws into the can, paper mache made with 50% water and 50% water resistant Titebond Premium Wood Glue and newspaper for the mache, cardboard for the teeth, and finally Montana Gold Spray Paint. The thought of a fun and cartoon like trashcan seemed like the best idea to me when I was making my proposal for my project because a characterized trashcan could look like any kind of character. I figured that a cartoon fish of some sort would work best for this project as it is by the ocean and a cartoon like look made the best sense to me as people, mainly children, would enjoy throwing trash away in something that looks cool and friendly.
Learners will be able to research their country’s relationship to the sea and debate improvements to sustainable methods of collecting natural resources. A lot of people take the ocean, beaches, and other natural places for granted. these places are often viewed as "playgrounds," play grounds that will always be there for us to enjoy. The truth is, that unless we learn how to sustain the clean and natural environment of the beach and the ocean, they will become so polluted and degraded that these places will no longer be a place of enjoyment and recreation in the future. Making sure that the importance of everyone taking part in keeping the beaches and oceans clean is at the forefront of everyone's mind is an extremely important task.
How does marine conservation differ from other environmental issues? Marine conservation differs from other environmental issues as the ocean covers 71% of earth's surface so there is a lot of space for pollution to spread, not only that but the entire food chain relies on the ocean to continue going on. Also, it is definitely harder for us to 1: Stay in the ocean for enough time to study it 2: get the harmful plastics out of it (micro plastics for example are a huge threat to the ocean environment and it is extremely hard for us to get them) and 3: stop big fisheries from over fishing as it generates a lot of money not only for them but also for the government. How does the health of our ocean environments affect the health of all global citizens? The health of our ocean affects the heath of all global citizens because the whole foundation of earth's food chain IS the ocean, if the ocean were to be over polluted and deemed hazardous then the oceans life and fish would go extinct, thus causing bird populations to drop/go extinct thus causing small mammal populations such as foxes or raccoons to drop/go extinct and so on.
