Literacy
WNESU VISION
Students need to become engaged members of society who have the literacy skills to adapt in an evolving world. To address these demands, the WNESU curriculum empowers students to become literate through reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language development. These skills are essential for students' success in college, career and life beyond school.
The WNESU, through its P-12 literacy program, provides students with on-going, authentic reading experiences that are both personally enriching and academically challenging. The district is committed to helping students develop critical thinking skills applied to reading, writing, listening, speaking, and media analysis.
WNESU will utilize differentiated instruction that provides students access to complex and engaging texts which include progressively rich vocabulary to increase student interest and enjoyment in reading and learning. We encourage students to become active, compassionate, skillful, lifelong learners who understand and respect other cultures and thrive in an evolving global society.
WNESU draws heavily on our unique community resources to create a sense of pride. We provide opportunities for all students to develop deep understanding through best practices, rich curricular offerings, and cutting edge educational technologies. Our students will leave the WNESU as creative, collaborative learners and effective communicators who are able to think critically and contribute in today’s global community.
