At Macopin Middle School, students engage in a wide variety of activities in physical education class. The following is a list of some of the activities students may have the opportunity to learn and participate in throughout the school year. Our goal is to foster active participation in physical exercise while helping students develop healthy habits that support lifelong fitness and well-being.

Grading in PE class is based off of two categories. Each is worth a different percentage of the final marking period grade.
Can cell phones be used in physical education class?
No. Cell phones should be left with other personal belongings in the locker room. Cell phone use is strictly prohibited in locker rooms and during physical education classes.
How many marking periods is physical education class?
Three marking periods per year.
Can a lock be used for physical education class?
Yes. A school issued lock must be used for the locker room. Locks can be purchased during the school year for $6.00.
What does prepared for physical education class mean?
A student is considered prepared for physical education class when they are wearing athletic clothing and athletic sneakers.
Do students have to change clothing for physical education class?
Though it is not required to change clothing for physical education class we strongly recommend that students use different clothing for PE class than the clothing they wear during the rest of the school day. This is to encourage proper hygiene practices.
Are there any clothes or shoes that are not acceptable for physical education class?
Below is a list of clothing or shoes that are NOT acceptable. Wearing any of these items would constitute being unprepared for PE class.
Any clothing that does not meet the school dress code
Jeans, jeans shorts, jeggings
Cargo shorts or pants
"Onesie" pajamas or jumpers
Dress pants and dress shirts
Boots (including Uggs, hiking boots, snow boots, or work boots)
Crocs (even in "sport mode"), sandals or flip flops, slippers
Dress shoes, loafers, boat shoes (this includes Hey Dudes)
Any clothing that is deemed a safety concern for physical education class is not allowed
Hoods and hats are not allowed during physical education class
All cellphones and earbuds should be left in the locker room
Lanyards and jewelry that may be unsafe is not permitted
How many points are lost when a student is unprepared for physical education class?
Unprepared students will lose 5 points from the participation category of their marking period grade. Students that are unprepared may not participate in physical education that day.
How does the grading work for physical education class?
Students start each marking period with 80 points in the participation category and can earn up to 20 points (two tests worth 10 pts each) in the activity comprehension category. The total points is 100 points for the marking period. Lost points can not be earned back. There is no extra credit offered for physical education class.
Are there written tests in physical education class?
Yes. Students are expected to take two tests per marking period in physical education class. The tests are meant to demonstrate comprehension of material and activities covered in class. Each test is worth 10 points in the Activity Comprehension portion of the marking period grade.
What happens if a student can not participate in PE due to injury?
Parents may excuse their child from PE class for up to two days with a parent note/email to their PE teacher. Students that have to be excused from PE longer than two days must have a doctor’s note turned in to the nurse.
