Hello! I am Julie Day and I am the elementary school counselor. As the school counselor, I work with students, teachers, support staff, parents/guardians, and members of the community meet the social and emotional needs of our students. I have been a part of the school community since 2006 and became a professional school counselor in 2009. Outside of school I live with my husband, Howard, my son, Isaac, who will be attending his last year at WM-R1, and my dog, Tanzi. My goal is to create a positive learning environment and be the caring listener that our students deserve.
Second Step is the SEL Program (Social and Emotional Learning) that I will be continuing to teach throughout the year to all grades K-6. This will allow me as a counselor to focus on connection, not perfection. The Second Step SEL program will focus on: Skills for learning, problem-solving steps, empathy, and how to calm down when having strong feelings. I also am doing small SEL groups with 6th-8th grade for an hour a week.
