Teaching Mathematics Content Courses (TeMaCC) began in 2014 with a one-day conference organized by mathematicians and math educators at University of Michigan Ann Arbor and University of Michigan Dearborn. TeMaCC had a goal of facilitating communication and collaboration across institutions in Michigan regarding math content courses for future teachers. In the summer of 2015, TeMaCC became a Special Interest Group of the Michigan Association of Mathematics Teachers Educators (MI-AMTE). While the organization was involved in a variety of activities over the years, the one-day annual conference was the cornerstone of what TeMaCC did.
In fall 2021, many Michigan institutions will begin to offer new elementary education programs designed to meet the new state standards and grade bands. The new standards for the PreK-3 and 3-6 grade bands obliterate the content/methods distinctions. While this organization still intend to focus on issues of understanding the mathematics content teachers will teach, we recognize that this will not happen solely in “pure” content courses, rather it will occur in a variety of courses including courses designed to focus on both content and methodology. Thus we have dropped the last C from our group name, going from TeMaCC to TeMaC.
