The R-SEEDS Site at Western Michigan University, supported by the REU Program of the National Science Foundation, aims to engage undergraduate students in energy-efficient technology research, design, and development. It offers research projects in a broad range of exciting engineering and computing topics, such as:

• computer architectures and energy-efficient computing, 

• electric grid component design, 

• electric and autonomous vehicles, 

• nanosatellites, 

• plasma-assisted combustion, 

• industrial carbon capture, 

• neurobiological engineering, and 

• microplasma sterilization. 

Participants will learn the different challenges imposed by implementing energy-efficient systems and ways to overcome them.

Eligibility

• Freshman (with one semester completed at a 2 or 4-year college) to senior (with at least one semester left) at the time of application.

• STEM major, preferably engineering.

• GPA of 3.0 or higher.

• US citizen or permanent resident (this is a requirement by the National Science Foundation).

•  Age 18+

• Should not work or takes classes during the R-SEEDS period.

Underrepresented minorities, including women, first-in-college generation, veterans, persons with disabilities, and students from academic institutions with limited research in STEM are strongly encouraged to apply.
