The R-SEEDS Site at Western Michigan University, supported by the REU Program of the National Science Foundation, aims to engage undergraduate students in energy-efficient technology research, design, and development. It offers research projects in a broad range of exciting engineering and computing topics, such as:
computer architectures and energy-efficient computing,
electric grid component design,
electric and autonomous vehicles,
nanosatellites,
plasma-assisted combustion,
industrial carbon capture,
neurobiological engineering, and
microplasma sterilization.
Participants will learn the different challenges imposed by implementing energy-efficient systems and ways to overcome them.
Freshman (with one semester completed at a 2 or 4-year college) to senior (with at least one semester left) at the time of application.
STEM major, preferably engineering.
GPA of 3.0 or higher.
US citizen or permanent resident (this is a requirement by the National Science Foundation).
Age 18+
Participants should not work or takes classes during the R-SEEDS period.
$6,000 stipend.
Meal plan, free on-campus housing, free access to the university’s recreation center, library, transportation, and some relocation reimbursement.
