Essential Elements that Increase Opportunities for Success in Sp Ed & Gen Ed classes for Students with Disabilities & Struggling Learners.
Dr Tessie Rose Bailey
How do we promote progress for students with disabilities across educational settings, including resource classes, general education environments, non-academic environments? It starts with a well-documented and implemented comprehensive statement of services and aids. But what does that look like in effective schools?
The PROGRESS Center, a federally funded special education center, identified and evaluated essential elements of schools where students with disabilities were outperforming expected achievement in both reading and math. This session will share the five essential elements, with particularly attention to the design and delivery of general and special education instruction and supports, found to be associated with providing high-quality instructional opportunities that ensure students with disabilities access and progress in the general curriculum. Freely available tools and resources to support local implementation will be highlighted and shared.
Developing an Early Childhood Professional Identity and Using Montana’s Early Childhood Knowledge Base to Develop Reflective Practices
Dr Eliza Sorte Thomas
Whether you’re a director, classroom teacher, or a support to educators this session will help you take a look at your education characteristics and how they impact your relationships with children and your colleagues. The Montana Early Childhood Knowledge Base will be used as the foundational document to do this work along with fun personality tests, activities with opportunities for reflection, and the Knowledge Base itself. When we know ourselves, we can support those we teach and work with.
Participants will;
Take and reflect upon a variety of informal “personality” tests.
Participate in activities and use the Knowledge Base to reflect upon them through that lens.
Celebrate your individual strengths and make plans for supporting areas that are not as strong.
