Conversations to address our children's questions, fears, and understanding about racism are essential to have. Parent Tool Kit -- This is a helpful resource on how to talk to kids about race and racism, with advice to: actually talk about, set an example, navigate curiosity, make it relatable, address mistakes, be an advocate. In light of the novel coronavirus situation, many parents and caregivers are seeking help on talking to their children about facts and fears. The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) has provided an information resource with tips and strategies. One of the most important things for parents to remember is to stay CALM. Children are attuned to the spoken and unspoken word of the adults around them and look for adult guidance on how to react to stressful events. Audiobooks and Text-to-Speech --If your child has trouble with reading, it can help to hear books read aloud as s/he looks at the printed words. S/he can do this by listening to an audiobook while flipping through a traditional book. Or s/he can use text-to-speech to hear the words in a digital book.
