ABOUT the PROGRAM
Summer Youth Theatre has been a part of Watertown-Mayer's Community Education program for nearly forty years! Each year, auditions take place early June and rehearsals run through July. We culminate the theatre experience with performances open to the public at our beautiful Performing Arts Center. A staple of SYT is original scripts and music. We write new shows each year to remain timely and relevant. We love to see children build confidence, friendships, and creativity in our program!
Students Grades 3-8 are eligible to participate in our seven-week program. There are no "cuts" in auditions. Once a child is registered, they automatically get a role. Auditions are just to assign parts. While there are no cuts at auditions, space is limited to 50 participants. See Registration page for more details.
Our program is designed to help performers grow into confident, kind, and collaborative individuals. We focus on building self-esteem, encouraging creativity, and fostering meaningful friendships through ensemble-based theatre. It’s a great fit for kids who are excited to be part of a team, try new things, and have fun—not just those looking for the spotlight.
To ensure a positive experience for everyone, we do have clear expectations around behavior. Rehearsals are structured, purposeful, and focused on growth. This is not a drop-off or babysitting program—students are expected to come ready to listen, participate, and treat others with kindness and respect. If a participant is consistently unable to meet those expectations, they may not be invited back to the program in the future.
Registration for 2026 will take place in March 2026. Stay tuned for an exact date!
