New to WHS Girls Soccer?
2025 Tryout Dates: August 17-21 (M-F) @ WHS Stadium Field
Session 1, 8-10AM: Freshman, Returning JV, & New Players
Session 2, 9:45-11:45AM: Seniors & Returning Varsity
As tryouts work themselves out and girls are recognized as Varsity candidates, players will be asked to attend the second session.
Team rosters are typically decided by W/TH, and training with your assigned team and coach will begin the next day.
***Athletes MUST be cleared through the athletic registration process BEFORE they can participate in Tryouts. Visit the WHS Athletic Clearance Page for more information on the requirements to be fully cleared to play.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Tryouts will include technical activities, small-sided/ full field play, and fitness testing to determine the best fit for each player. Athletes should plan on attending all tryout days M-F. If an athlete is not cleared before the end of tryouts, or an athlete is absent from tryouts, they will be placed on a lower team initially and the staff will make the decision on a level change within a few days if necessary.
Tryouts are split into two sessions:
First session: Returning JV1/JV2 & Incoming Freshman (+ any other new players)
Second session: Returning Varsity & Seniors
As tryouts work themselves out and girls are recognized as Varsity candidates, players will be asked to attend the second session. Our goal is to support 3 teams in our program including a Varsity, JV1, and JV2 team. This is always subject to change, but our hope is to provide playing opportunities for as many athletes as possible with 3 teams. After tryouts are completed, athletes will then be under the guidance of their assigned coach and communication will primarily come from them.
FITNESS TESTING INFORMATION
1. Beep Test - Tryout Day 1, Both Sessions
The beep test is a multi-stage fitness test that gradually gets faster as the levels increase. The test format is similar to a shuttle run, and the objective is to get to the other side of the 20 meters by the next beep. The goal for Varsity-level players is to pass level 9, shuttle 8 (averages to 1600M in 9:14 pace). You can find the audio recording of the beep test at: https://open.spotify.com/track/0qZtNU9z6PNfVfg0iDaFeD
Visit www.beeptestguide.com for more information on the Beep Test including the score recording sheet
2. 120's Test - Tryout Day 2, Second Session Only (Varsity Team Candidates)
For this test, players will complete a series of 120-yard timed runs (the entire length of a soccer field). First, run 120 yards in 20 seconds and then jog back to the start line in 60 seconds as recovery. Athletes will repeat this pattern 10 times at 1:20 per pattern. There is an additional minute of rest after completing run #4 and run #8.
