What: Visualizing text is the process of making "mental images" of concepts, scenes, characters, descriptions, and figurative language. By activating prior knowledge, "good readers" make connections to their life experiences and other texts through mental images.
Why effective? When students visualize what they read, comprehension, inferential reasoning, and retention are increased (Report of the National Reading Panel, 2000).
