Give your child something fun to look forward to. Schedule a game night, develop a menu for a special meal to cook together, or plan a pretend trip to an exotic location!
Listen and accept their emotions without judgement
You can read the same book as a family, listen to an audio book and discuss it together, or read your own book in the same room! It is extremely valuable for students to see adults around them read for fun!
Read with greater fluency and expression.
Use decoding and comprehension strategies more efficiently (rereading, questioning, and so on).
Identify an increasing number of words by sight.
Spend time reading daily and use reading to research topics
Read a variety of genres for a variety of purposes
Students will write in a variety of genres with their audience in mind (stories, informational, persuasive, poetry)

My goal is to provide a safe and secure pace for your child to learn, make mistakes and grow socially and academically. Some students may not see themselves as readers or writers yet, but I hope that over the course of this year they begin to find joy of reading and fall in love with a series.
