Check out this presentation from our principal Mrs. Johnson about our grading system.
Letter Grades
Your student will now earn a letter grade for each of their classes: A, B, C, or NYM (Not Yet Meeting).
Letter grades are an average of what students are earning on their summative work. Formative work is not included in your student's grade.
Grades are new for your student and should measure your student's knowledge of a certain standard or topic in class. Teachers use rubrics on a scale of 1-4, with 4 being the highest to help students see where their work and knowledge are for that specific standard or content.
Students might feel pressure around their grades since this is all new. They often need some reassurance and coaching around how they are doing from not only us, but also from their support systems at home.
Formative Vs. Summative Assessments/Grades
Formative Assessments
is practice work. This work does not impact or change a student's grade.
This type of work is more of daily in class work, exit tickets, quick checks for understanding, etc.
This is a learning space for students to make mistakes before they get to a summative without being penalized for getting something wrong in the learning process.
Summative Assessments
This is where students show all that they have learned/know.
100% of your student's grade is made up of Summative Assessment grades. These assessments do impact and change a student's grade.
Examples of these types of summatives are: writing pieces, essays, unit tests, quizzes, lab assignments, projects, etc.
These are graded on a rubric, given feedback, and are able to be revised.
Shows were the student is in that moment with that specific content or standard
Revision Opportunities
Students are offered revision opportunities throughout the year to be able to revise their original summative.
There are clear procedures around retaking of summatives that each teacher will give to the students and clear deadlines for when revisions must be completed by.
What do the codes: NTI and NE mean?
When looking at your student's grades in Parent Vue, make sure to click on each class specifically to see the specific assignments/summatives that are in your student's grade.
From this view, you will be able to see the individual rubric scores for your student, if a student is missing an assignment, if something was turned in late, and any teacher comments that have been left about the assignment or summative.
NTI= not turned in and will calculate as a 0% until it is turned in
NE=No Evidence
