West Lyon Community School
I am in my 10th year of teaching at West Lyon. I'm excited to be partnering with Northwest Iowa Community College to offer concurrent enrollment credits for juniors and seniors. These are courses which students can take during the West Lyon school day while also receiving college credit. These concurrent enrollment courses are College Composition I, College Composition II, and Introduction to Literature. Additionally, I teach two sections of Creative Writing/The Novel and one section of a small Mass Media class, which weekly contributes to the West Lyon Herald with our Catscratch section of the paper. I am also the director for the spring play. I feel lucky to work at a job that I truly love. It’s a joy to help students become more mature thinkers and communicators, to form rewarding relationships with them, and to be inspired by them.
My husband Jason and I are both graduates of West Lyon and of Northwestern College in Orange City, IA, where I earned my undergraduate in English Teaching. I also have my Master’s in Teaching English in Secondary Schools from the University of Northern Iowa. Jason and I live with our two children and our American Eskimo dog in Larchwood, IA, where we enjoy spending time with family.
