Watch this space for more information about the WLIS choir for the 2025-2026 school year. We plan to start up choir rehearsals for the year on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Please see the registration information below.
Registration will open THIS WEEK for the 2025-2026 WLIS Choir season! Please fill out both steps of the registration process below. (if you have any questions please contact Miss Hale.)
Step One: Walk through the Online Registration Form. Please go online and fill out this form then....
Step Two: Print, sign, and send/bring in the $45.00 Fee & Permission/Commitment Form for the year.
Be sure to submit the first form and print, sign and return your second form with payment of $45 in a well-marked envelope.
Also, please consider volunteering to provide a ride home from rehearsal after it is over and possibly to and from concerts for our students who would not be able to participate otherwise. (This is an important contribution toward the future of our choir program and the total music schedule in general.)
We will rehearse on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:20-3:30 p.m., beginning on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Please see performance uniform information below.
Our performance uniform is a red polo shirt. We have available for order, a shirt with our West Lafayette Music logo. The fee will be $14 for a new shirt. Please note: The choir and orchestras use the same shirt. If you already have an older shirt from a previous year, or from a former student or a used WLIS MUSIC shirt it is quite acceptable, feel free to use the shirt you already own.
Thanks to some generous donations, we may have some gently used choir shirts available to borrow for the year at no cost to you. If your family would like to borrow a shirt, please contact Miss Hale.
Our concert attire is nice Blue Jeans, WLIS concert shirt or appropriately red polo (golf) style shirt, and dark shoes.
Any time school is closed due to weather or other serious event, all after-school events are automatically cancelled. When school is closed, please stay home, and stay safe.
Have you missed a choir rehearsal (or you know that you will need to miss an upcoming rehearsal)? Please fill out the Choir Absence Form as soon as possible. You can also submit this form electronically (preferable) or you may submit a hard copy of the form to me (LINK FOR HARD FORM DOWNLOAD). To reduce traffic jams and ensure student safety, we will dismiss our regular Tuesday and Thursday choir practices from WLIS Door #1 (the main entrance). Please observe the same pickup traffic procedures as you would for end-of-the-day dismissal. Be sure to pull all the way forward so we can use the entire sidewalk. If you must be late to pick your child up, please remember the WLIS office will close this year at 3:45 p.m. NO STUDENT SHOULD BE HERE AFTER 3:55 P.M. Please send me an email if you will be late picking up your child.
The WLIS Choir was founded in 1988 by Mr. Randy Leazenby. It is a non-auditioned group made up of students in grades 4-6. Our choir meets after school in the music room two days a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:20- 3:30 p.m. The choir performs more challenging musical selections than the regular general music classes but is considered a teaching choir. We perform throughout the year at school concerts, community venues, and events.
The choir will be directed by Miss Emmy Hale for the 2025-2026 academic year. Miss Hale received her bachelor's degree in Vocal and General Music Education at Ball State University in December 2024. She has had experience directing the 4th-5th grade choir in her student teaching. Miss Hale is a soprano singer, who has been involved in a range of choral groups for the past nine years and has taken private vocal lessons for eight years including her time at Ball State University. While attending Ball State she participated in Vox Anima, a group for treble singers, and the Opera Chorus. She has taken part in over twenty different productions including musicals and operas with notable roles as Johanna in Sweeney Todd and Principal Mullins in School of Rock. She is very excited to make an impact on the choral program here at West Lafayette Intermediate School.
Circle the State With Song registration will not begin until mid-November. Students will perform at Crawfordsville Senior High School on February 14th, 2026. There is a $30 fee to register with limited partial scholarships available. Students do not have to participate in Honor Choir to do Circle the State With Song.
Students who are participating in Honor Choir must also do Circle the State With Song. There is a $200 fee to register, with limited partial scholarships available. Students will stay overnight on January 15th and perform on the 16th at the Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Honor Choir rehearsals will take place after our regularly scheduled choir times from 3:30 to 4:45 on Tuesdays. These rehearsals will begin late November. Honor Choir auditions are currently being held. Please email me as soon as possible if you would like your student to audition.
