Hello! My name is Melissa Polk and I am the music teacher for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades at West Lafayette Elementary School. I have been teaching since 2013 in Indiana, but am a Michigan native where I attended Michigan State University for music education. I continued my studies after graduation at Indiana University to learn about the Kodaly method and completed a masters degree at Anderson University with a focus on the Orff Schulwerk approach.
In my classroom I like to incorporate many different ways for students to experience music, so that they can become life long lovers of the arts. My lessons involve singing, composing, improvising, moving, listening, and playing many different instruments to help build skills and achieve the National and State Standards for each grade level. I look forward to working with your child this year and guiding them to grow in their abilities, so that they can create, explore, and express themselves through music.
Hopefully some of the pages of this site will answer the questions you've come here for. If you are looking to get in touch with me or Mrs. Adams concerning your child, please include their first and last name as well as classroom teacher, so that we can follow up with you quickly.
