Mrs. Rebecca Kaverman began her teaching career in 2007 in the Tippecanoe School Corporation. She taught fourth grade at Wea Ridge Elementary for one year before moving to Dayton Elementary School where she taught fourth grade for the next four years. As a classroom teacher, Rebecca enjoyed teaching Reading Workshop and Writing Workshop, hosting Purdue education students and a student teacher, and collaborating with her building colleagues. She was the Dayton Elementary School Teacher of the Year in 2012.
From 2012-2016, Rebecca served as an elementary Instructional Coach for the Tippecanoe School Corporation. She worked across eight elementary schools providing professional development and support for teachers as they worked to implement best practices. During the 2015-2016 school year, Rebecca also worked as an elementary ESL Coach providing support for students and teachers across the eleven elementary schools in TSC.
Rebecca came to West Lafayette Intermediate School (then Happy Hollow) in August 2016 to begin her role as an intervention teacher. She taught reading and math intervention for seven years at WLIS. As an intervention teacher, Rebecca enjoyed helping student build their self-confidence, creating hands-on learning opportunities to build concrete understanding of skills, using data to target students' specific learning needs, and being part of the Response to Intervention Process.
Rebecca came to West Lafayette Elementary School in June 2023 to begin her role as a first grade teacher. She is excited to serve as a classroom teacher again and is especially excited to work with growing readers.
Rebecca graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette in 2007 with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish Language and Literature. She graduated with her Masters Degree in Literacy and Language Education from Purdue in May 2012. Rebecca completed her Orton Gillingham certification through the Orton Gillingham Academy in December 2021.
Rebecca lives in West Lafayette with her husband, Steve, and their two daughters, Bethany (12) and Brooke (9), and dog, Roxie. Away from school, Rebecca loves to be with her family and cheer on her daughters at dance competitions and swim meets. She also likes to volunteer and serve at her church (First United Methodist Church), read (especially historical fiction), work in her flower gardens, bake, take walks, and is learning how to embroider.
