Jing Wang -- October 8th
Pastel colors. Cute artwork. Multi-tasking. Papa’s games. If these things sound appealing, welcome down the rabbit hole that is Great Pizza, Great Pizza. An indie game made by TapBlaze, Great Pizza, Good Pizza is all about running a small pizza business. The game heavily reminded me of Papa’s Games (Papa’s Freezeria, Papa’s Scooperia, etc.) with the multi-tasking, time limit, and customer ratings. I loved management and multi-tasking games since I was a child, so this game was right up my alley.
Starting off, there will be a couple easy days where you learn the game’s mechanics. It’s quite simple and cute. The soundtrack is upbeat and enchanting although I did silence it after a few games; I like to play games with my own music. The little ingredients you put on the pizza are adorable, and the overall aesthetic of the game, for a lack of a better word, eats. After the initial few days, the plot kicks in, and as you progress further into the game, you unlock new toppings, customers, business opportunities, and even a garden!
The Aesthetics Eating and Leaving No Crumbs
Additionally, I love repetition; it soothes me, and I like knowing what I am doing. That’s why I love Papa’s games and this game. Although the orders can be a bit confusing to understand at times (see below), I like making variations of the same thing. If you’re not particularly interested in doing the same thing over and over again, this game also has Chapters, or separate plot lines, each with its specific quirks. Unlike some games, your response to characters in the game actually makes a difference in where your story ends up (although you will never lose your pizza shop). A quick common-sense tip is to always be kind. The game rewards you, and the karma is actually fair unlike real life.
List of Complicated Orders Others Have Came Across
Good Pizza, Great Pizza is just a very simple and cute game. It is repetitive but includes plot to keep things fresh. It is a great way to occupy your mind and de-stress after a long day; nothing feels better than zoning out and doing something somewhat mindless after being stressed for an entire week. All in all, Good Pizza, Great Pizza is a great game to try for a long road trip (did I mention it’s wifi free?) or simply on a relaxing weekend. Coming from a semi-obsessed player, I promise that you will not regret it.
