I graduated from UC Davis where I studied Biological Sciences, emphasizing in Marine Biology. My studies took me to the Bodega Marine Lab, where I spent a summer studying* in tide pools and conducting short term research projects in the lab.

Before graduating, I spent three months studying tropical biology and conservation in Costa Rica. For a few of those weeks, I stayed in a small fishing village to conduct my research project, which involved surveying local coral reefs. The rest of my trip was spent in the Cloud Forests of Monteverde, studying local flora and fauna such as the bat, beetle, and tree hopper pictured above.

The project focused on restoring an eroding grove of oak trees by stabilizing the mountain side, installing irrigation, and transplanting native plants near the oaks. While on the island, I also ran into a variety of wildlife ranging from Island Foxes, to song sparrows, to scorpions.

In all of my adventures, I have found a passion for helping others, caring for our planet, and using teaching as a path to share that with others.

In my science classroom, I hope to plant this seed and watch it grow as my students grow, too. Together we will perform experiments and labs, have group discussions, and build our skills using the science and engineering practices of NGSS. By the end of the year, my students will leave my classroom as budding little scientists.
