PHILOSOPHY:
I believe that students are more motivated to learn basic skills when they see them being used in real and meaningful contexts. Science and hands-on projects provide an ideal setting for real and meaningful learning, and technology can help to give tools for communicating that learning with others (as well as add excitement to our work!)
EXPERIENCE:
I began my teaching career in the middle school, however for the past 20 years I have been teaching in elementary schools. I have taught all grades from first through eighth, and have taught in English and in Spanish. I have also taught technology and English in Japan.
CHILDHOOD:
I have lived in a variety of places during my life - overseas: Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Peru and Japan as well as this country. I love learning languages. Besides English and Spanish, I have studied French, Chinese, Japanese and Hindi.
HOBBIES:
This is my solar oven!
Those who know me know I am a fan of solar cooking.
Yes!! Using only the sun's energy, I cook all kinds of food! At home we've cooked plum cobblers, meatloaf, rice, sweet potatoes, casseroles, and many other dishes! In the summer that's where we do almost all our cooking, so we keep our kitchen cool!
