Hen House in the Hills

Jefferson Hills Intermediate School-West Jefferson Hills School District

We have had some great things happening here at Jefferson Hills Intermediate School.
Check out below.

What's New?

Our little Fluffy became broody this past month.  That means she wants to hatch some baby chicks.  Who are we to say no?  She is currently doing her thing and sitting on 2 eggs.  Tune in for the results.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our web page.
It is here we will share with you our wonderful adventure.

Our Story

We are third graders at Jefferson Hills Intermediate school.  In 2017 I had this crazy idea to hatch chicks in the classroom.  We embarked on this adventure and after a few years, we decided to take it to the next level.  With the help of the West Jefferson Hills Foundation Grant, it allowed us the funds to collaborate with the Thomas Jefferson High School to build our very own chicken coop and keep the chicks on site at Jefferson Hills Intermediate School.  Now, the students will have the opportunity to learn so many new things.  From taking care of the chickens by feeding them and caring for their coop to running their own business by selling eggs and other EGGG-citing things. (sorry... I had to)

A year later, we now have 10 egg laying hens.  It is such an amazing opportunity for the students to care for and watch them produce the eggs.

This past summer, our wonderful custodians, Mr. Leroy and Mr. Denny built the girls a new home on the playground.  We can't wait to hatch more eggs this spring.
Take a minute to meet our girls, see some photos, check out our store, and if you can, browse our wish list and donations page.  There is also a special page to ask any questions.

None of this could be possible without the help of so many people.  Thank you so much for supporting  our children and crazy ideas.
