All West Islip High School students are required to complete the Civic Engagement requirement prior to graduation. This requirement aligns with our district's mission and our Profile of a Graduate. Students must meet one (1) of the below requirements. Passport for Good provides students with a dashboard to track their progress, while also monitoring their community services, extra-curriculars, clubs, honor societies, and much more! Click on any of the three options to learn more about their requirements.
Choose the CSIP option if you like to join clubs, participate in athletics, are in love with the arts, or just like to get out in the community and volunteer! If you choose this option, the following points are required to graduate:

The Seal of Civic Readiness is a formal recognition that a student has attained a high level of proficiency in terms of civic knowledge, civic skills, civic mindset, and civic experiences. The Seal of Civic Readiness distinction on a high school transcript and diploma:
shows the student’s understanding of a commitment to participatory government; civic responsibility and civic values;
demonstrates to universities, colleges, and future employers that the student has completed an action project in civics or social justice; and
recognizes the value of civic engagement and scholarship.
Student must earn six (points) total, two (2) from Civic Knowledge and two (2) from Civic Participation. The two (2) points can come from either column.
For Class of 2028 and beyond: All 8th grade students will complete a Middle School Capstone Project and enter WIHS with 1 (one) point completed.
Are you part of West Islip High School's International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme? Diploma candidates are required to complete ongoing and meaningful CAS (Community, Action and Service). This consists of time devoted to activities involving communities as local as West Islip or as global as the entire planet. Time devoted to athletic pursuits may be used to satisfy the “action” requirements of the program, subject to the approval of the West Islip CAS Coordinator. CAS hours may begin at the beginning of Junior year but must be completed by the end of the student’s senior year. The West Islip CAS Coordinator must approve student hours prior to the commencement of each activity.
If you are on track to receive an IB Diploma, you will meet your Civic Engagement requirement through CAS.

For more information about our IB Diploma Programme, speak to your school counselor or contact Mr. Gilmartin, our IB Programme Coordinator.
Student Engagement
Passport For Good is a student-driven engagement platform that not only propels student engagement through fun and useful ways, but also chronicles, captures, and measures student participation digitally inside and outside the classroom. Passport For Good provides real-time meaningful data districts, schools, and educators can use to provide better student outcomes.
Digital Portfolio
Passport For Good’s Digital Portfolio paves the way for students to showcase the impact their contributions have made on their school and community.
