Framing Model

In this construction model, we built a ¾ scale of the structure of a typical house. This included everything from the foundation to the roof and everything in between. For everything underground we used foam board in our model. Moving up the house we used to scale, 2”x4”, 2”x6” and 2”x8” balsa wood to build the walls, floorboards and ceiling joists. For the floor we used to scale ½” plywood. This house consisted of a crawlspace, one floor with 2 windows and a door. What I found most interesting about this project was learning about all of the details and structural components involved. I didn’t know about all of the layers even involved in just building the floor. The most challenging part for me was building the wall. I kept on getting my fingers stuck to the wood with the super glue and because of this it was getting very challenging to have the walls stay straight. Everything would be the same height and then all the glue would soak into the wood and it wouldn’t stick anymore so it just became a mess! Making the window was also a challenge because everything was already soaked in glue so every time I went to touch something I would get stuck. I am glad I now how a deeper understanding on the structure of a house.

This project was the first time I looked into the structure of any building. Starting off, we first learned the different terms for each
