In the unlikely event that the West Islip Union Free School District needs to shift to remote instruction (e.g., if snowfall exceeds the two snow days built into the 2025–2026 calendar), the District’s Emergency Remote Instruction Plan will be implemented.
Please review the attached Emergency Remote Instruction Plan, which includes the abbreviated schedule and expectations for students in grades 6–12.
Should a remote instruction day become necessary, students will follow the attached schedule and participate in instruction from home using their 1:1 devices.
If you or your child has any questions about the attached information, please contact your building principal. You may also reach out to the Office of Curriculum and Instruction at d.morrison@wi.k12.ny.us.
Guidelines for Fully Remote Learning
In the event that the district enters a fully remote learning environment, please follow these guidelines to ensure a productive and successful experience:
Charge Your Device: Please ensure your Chromebook is fully charged each day before classes begin.
Punctuality & Attendance: Students are expected to log into each Google Meet on time and remain present for the entire class period. Attendance will be taken during each class.
Accessing Classes: Teachers will post the Google Meet link in their Google Classroom. Students should use this link to join the live lesson each day.
Learning Environment: Students must keep their cameras on, with their faces clearly visible, and be situated in a space that supports learning (e.g., seated at a desk, table, or counter with minimal distractions).
Dress Code: Students are expected to dress appropriately, as they would in a regular school setting.
Grading: All assigned work will be graded and counted toward students' overall performance.
Students will follow their daily bell schedule while on remote learning.
