Skills we are working on

Dear Parents:

With English Language Arts: We will continue to build and guide each child with their own learning needs in order to find success when charting the waters of reading, writing, along with all of the skills that are needed in order to achieve their goals.   Our main focus is to make learning fun, exciting, and engaging.  We want reading and writing to be a happy experience overall and for your child to make progress and feel successful and proud of the work they produce.

With Math: We will begin the year with ease.   To get us set on our needed path that individualizes the way each student thinks, we will begin with assessments/review so that we can group students in areas that will support their learning needs and build on what they already know as well as support and work on areas that are still unfamiliar.  Our goal is to build a strong foundation and knowledge in math so that your child feels comfortable moving forward and learning newer techniques and skills that are needed.

In all learning areas it really does take a village and together with open communication and knowing your child, we can achieve anything!

Some helpful hints that can guide each student on their adventure towards success is for you to continue working on sight words daily, reading books they love together and allowing them to sound out words they know, practicing their numbers, and number facts.

For example, a simple way to make this fun is when doing a task given at home or around town is tapping out CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant) such as C-A-T or D-O-G.  If they self-correct give them a praise!! If they need guidance simply, resound it out in a slower tone and allow them to repeat after you.  With numbers, they can count forks being put away.  Or for example if you happen to take walks, count the trees.  Or you can say something like this, "Whenever we see a car let's count by 5's or 10's!"  This allows it to be more engaging and feels more like a game that keeps their mind interested and will allow them to enjoy the activity.

With all things they are trying to achieve, praise them!  Each of them are working hard and I know together we can accomplish their goals and continue to build a strong educational foundation.

Always be well and happy,

 Mrs. Johnson
