Dear Parents,
Hello and welcome back to a new school year. My name is Nick Grieco and we will be teaching physical education to your children this year. The children will be learning in a safe and fun environment while acquiring various skills. Through physical education, the children will develop physical skills that will help lead to a positive self-image and encourage them to lead healthy lifestyles. Learning to be healthy and staying healthy is so important to us.
The purpose of this program is to provide a fun learning environment that will help children become aware of what their bodies are capable of doing, how their bodies can move, where their bodies can move and how their bodies can move with different objects. The K, first and second graders will also participate in such units as fitness, ball skills, bowling, healthy heart week and so much more.
The third, fourth, and fifth grade classes will be working on more sports related skills. Their first units will football and soccer. The third graders will begin with basic skills and the fourth and fifth graders will review and fine-tune them. Other units that will be included in physical education this year are volleyball, basketball, hockey, and Project Adventure (cooperative games). We are also so excited to continue to teach golf. Golf is a great life skill and we know that the students all love it. Just like the lower grades, the third, fourth, and fifth graders will also have units of fitness, Frisbee golf, and Healthy Heart Week. All games and activities will be age appropriate. While learning all of these new and exciting skills, the students will also be learning about the muscles, the bones, and the systems of the body.
At the same time, physical fitness and good sportsmanship are part of our daily routine in physical education class. The children warm up and stretch their muscles every day before they play their games. Our discussion helps the children realize the importance of performing these exercises to stay healthy. After a considerable amount of preparation, a physical fitness test will be given to the students in grades 2-5, at the end of the year.
Please make sure that your children are wearing sneakers to lessen the chance of injuries. There are shoes that look like sneakers that are not sneakers. Just make sure that they do not have heels, NO platform sneakers, and NO backless sneakers please. Any child that comes to class without sneakers will have to sit out. If you have any questions for us, please stop by the gym or give us a call. We look forward to great 2024-2025 school year.
Sincerely
Mr. Nick Grieco
