Welcome to Chemistry with Mr. Daniels!
What is Chemistry? Chemistry is all around us. It's in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat. It's the science of change and of transformation. It is the knowledge that the atoms that comprise Earth and all the living things on it burst forth from the big bang and from the heavy hearts of stars, billions of years ago. To understand chemistry is to understand the universe.
Classroom Rules:
BE PUNCTUAL: Get to class on time and ready to work.
BE PREPARED: Bring all required materials to class each day.
BE RESPECTFUL: Don’t talk out of turn, be disruptive or use foul language. Do not line up at the door before the bell rings. I will dismiss you.
NO EATING: Food will not be allowed in class at any time. Food and drinks are banned during labs.
BE SAFE: Follow safety rules at all times.
NO CELL PHONES/ ELECTRONIC DEVICES: Electronic device policy is strictly enforced. Any cell phone in class will be collected. Having a phone on your person during a test will result in a zero grade
Materials Needed For Class (Every Day):
o 1 for notes, handouts and classwork
o 1 for tests/quizzes
Blue or black pen (for notes). Pencil with eraser (for math calculations or graphs).
Chemistry reference tables (This should be the first item in your notebook).
4 function or scientific (preferred) calculator
A charged chromebook
Grading:
o All tests are Regents-based.
o There is always a test review embedded in your notes for each unit.
o If you are absent on a test or quiz day, you will make it up the DAY you return.
Individual Work = 15%
Lab Assessments = 10%
o Late lab packets are deducted 10pts off per day late. Any lab late more than 3 days can receive a maximum grade of 65%./
o If I have to clean up your lab station, ALL lab partners lose 10 pts.
Extra Help/ Absences
Extra help will be held directly after school on Wednesday.
If you are absent due to illness, music lessons, etc., you are responsible for all missing work & checking for assignments on Google classroom. It is advisable to get the phone number of a classmate to form a study group and to find out missed assignments.
Regents Requirements
o The 1200 minutes must be accompanied by a written lab report with a grade of 65% or better.
Failure to meet the Regents lab requirement (1200 minutes) results in:
