Hello and welcome to my website. I am Melissa Curley and I am a special education teacher. I teach 9th grade special class global studies and resource room. This is my 18th year teaching here at the high school.
Welcome!!
Global Studies: For all relevant information regarding Self-Contained Global Studies, please refer to my regular Google Classroom. The title of the classroom is "Global Studies 9 SC ". All students have joined and have access to it.
Resource Room is designed to help reinforce areas of academic deficits, such as reading comprehension, basic math skills and writing skills, as well as specific academic goals outlined in students' Individual Education Plans. Additionally, the accommodation of Extra Time to complete exams is executed through Resource Room.
DURING Resource Room:
We will work on highlighting and annotating skills intended to fortify reading skills, allowing students to immerse themselves more seamlessly in their academic classes, as well as utilize those skills as strategies for studying and preparing for classroom tests and projects. Several times each academic quarter, we will culminate our annotation project with a writing skills project, utilizing the writing process to produce a cohesive writing sample. Additionally, we are working on fortifying basic mathematical skills, solving real world algebraic problems and breaking down word problems into smaller units for solution. All learning activities and data collected are individualized to each student's IEP and the academic goals contained therein.
To keep apprised of homework assignments, upcoming assignments, projects, tests and due dates, please check the Google Sites or Google Classrooms of all content area teachers on a regular basis.
