Hello, fifth graders and families!

My name is Ms. Kalmus, and I am so excited to be joining the fifth-grade team this year! Our fifth-grade team includes Ms. Kennedy, Mrs. Hartnett, and Mr. DeMaio. I will be working closely with Mrs. Hartnett as we teach our homeroom, with a focus on Math and ELA. I will also travel with our class as they learn Science with Mr. DeMaio and Social Studies and Study Skills with Ms. Kennedy.

As a fifth-grade team, we departmentalize, which means students will have the opportunity to learn from different teachers throughout the day. This helps prepare them for the transition to middle school while still providing the support and sense of community they need to succeed.

Throughout the year, Mrs. Hartnett and I will work closely together to create a classroom where every student feels welcomed, supported, involved, and cared for. We will collaborate to adjust instruction, use learning strategies that best meet the needs of our students, and provide individualized supports and accommodations to help each child reach their goals.

My goal is for every student to experience success both academically and socially. Success may look different for every child, and that is okay! What matters is that each student continues to learn, grow, challenge themselves, and become more confident every day.

I am so excited to be a part of this wonderful fifth-grade team and cannot wait for an amazing year of learning, growing, and making memories together!
