English Learners

English Language Development (ELD) refers to deliberate, planned, and focused instruction intended to foster the development of social and academic English for English learners in order to make it possible for them to access the general academic program and gain agency as successful, contributing members of their communities. The WIU has focused on three areas to support English learners in distance learning:

• Content teacher collaboration

• Accommodations/modifications for content-area assignments

• Virtual “office hours” with parents
