SEND in Mainstream Schools
Pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) have the greatest need for excellent teaching and are entitled to provision that supports achievement at, and enjoyment of, school.
The evidence which informed the EEF’s ‘Special Education Needs in Mainstream Schools’ guidance report indicated that there are five particular approaches which can be integrated into day-to-day teaching practice to raise attainment among children with additional needs, as well as their classmates
One of the most impactful experiences for learners with SEND (special educational needs and/or disabilities) is to have access to high quality, inclusive teaching. A significant proportion of the needs that teachers encounter in the mainstream classroom can be met through High Quality Teaching.
An IEP is a document that helps teaching staff to plan for your child. It should include strategies to help them learn and be used to review their progress. The IEP should be guided by your child’s profile, records, assessments, their strengths and statement of SEN if they have one. It should help your child to access and engage with the curriculum
