I was a teacher for 9 years at Margo Elementary, and have been a GEAR UP Facilitator for about 3 years now. I am a mother of one daughter, who is 17 years old, and a mom to two yorkies, Lily, and Loki. 🐕

I am super excited to help each of you! No matter what district you graduated from, we are here to support you in this first year of college! 📚

I taught for 13 years at the elementary level before using my administration certification. I have been a facilitator for 2 years now and I absolutely love my job! I have 2 little girls, Adriana (11) and Elisa (8) and we currently reside in South Texas. On our time off we love to travel, hike, shop, try new foods and go biking. 💗🚲

Hello GEAR UP Students! My name is Nilsa Guzmán, and I am delighted to serve as one of your GEAR UP facilitators for the 24-25 school year. With 14 years of experience in education, I hold a Masters degree in Teacher Leadership, a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, and a principal certificate.

As GEAR UP Facilitators, we are commited to working closely with you to ensure you have all the resources needed to successfully transition to life after high school. We’re here to support you and celebrate every victory along the way.

Education has been my life long profession for the past 35 years.  I have been blessed to have worked as an elementary bilingual teacher for my first 14 years and then as a counselor at all levels for the past 20. 

My goal has always been to help students in any way possible; whether it be for guidance, support, and/or counseling services.

I take pride in being able to hear how our students excel and become successful individuals with the support and guidance from all stakeholders.
