What is the name of the club?
Central Middle School National Junior Honor Society
What is the focus of the club?
The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is one of the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character and Citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1929.
What day, time and where does the club meet?
The members meet at least once a month (usually the 3rd Thursday of every month). Members cannot miss more than 2 meetings. Students who are unable to attend the required meeting will need to provide a note from parent or doctor and schedule a make-up meeting with the sponsor. All meeting will be held in the cafeteria.
How does a student join this club?
Invitations are given to 6th grade students during the 2nd semester who have:
Been at Central Middle School for at least one full semester
Attained a cumulative average of at least 90% (in core classes) first semester of 6th grade and maintained average through each six-week grading period
No excessive absences
No ISS or OSS occurrences
What is required once a student is a member of NJHS?
Maintain a cumulative average of at least 90% (in core classes) at the end of each six-week grading period
Attend monthly meetings
Participate in community outreach programs organized by NJHS
Complete at least 20 service hours by the end of the school year
