About Us

The Undergraduate Machine Learning Research (UMLR) community is a network of people interested in engaging students in authentic undergraduate research projects that use machine learning, data science, and informatics techniques to solve problems. We want to lower the barriers that prevent students from participating in research, and prevent research mentors from leading projects. Join us on Slack to engage directly with community members, check out Resources for both student researchers and project mentors, attend an upcoming event to learn about techniques and tools, and contact us for for more information.

The materials, resources, and events are currently underdevelopment. Check back to see continued updates!

To learn technical machine learning research skills:

1) Introduction to Machine Learning for Engineering Research (ML4ER) is a one semester remote course that seeks to take students from ground zero to being ready to participate in research! The course runs during the Fall and Spring semester and is open to all!

2) Independent learning with modular ML activities

To build mentoring skills:

1) Meeting Notes from our bi-weekly mentor check-in meetings are available for those looking for ideas on how to manage and structure undergraduate research projects

The community Slack workspace is a place to ask questions, share expertise, coordinate research projects, and stay up to date with developments in the field.

The LinkedIn Community is a great way to stay up to date with community announcements and events!

Recorded events and video resources can be found on the UMLR youtube channel.
