Admittedly, this is much easier if you have multiple screens.
Adjust your windows and files so that everything you plan to share is open and already positioned on a single screen. Test which screen the presentation will open in when using presenter's mode in PowerPoint.
On your other screen, adjust the window sizes to split the screen between
the video conferencing platform with the chat open, and
your PowerPoint presenter's mode with notes
Official BB Collaborate Ultra Help is available from the software manufacturer at help.blackboard.com
Log in to my.wisc.edu using your UW Net ID and password.
Click on the Collaborate Ultra icon in the Web Conferencing (Blackboard) app.
If you do not have the Web Conferencing (Blackboard) app on your home screen, search for it at the top, and add it to your favorites.
Click "Create Session" in the upper left hand corner, and enter the title and scheduling details of your event.
To share the session with others:
Check the box for "Guest access"
Set the Guest role (I suggest "Participant" for learner teaching sessions)
Copy the Guest link and send it to your learners (email, outlook calendar event, etc).
When it's time for the session, YOU should join the session through my.wisc.edu. If you use the link, you will also come at the Guest role you defined when creating the event.
The people logged in to your presentation can have different permissions/roles in a BB Collaborate Ultra Session.
Participants can
view your session
control their individual microphone and camera
participate in the Everyone chat or send direct messages to someone from the participant list
annotate open whiteboards
participate in polls
Participants can engage at the level of a Presenter in break-out groups
Presenters have all the same abilities as participants, and can
share content
Moderators have all the above abilities, and can
manually change the roles of others
mute/unmute others
chat with other Moderators in the private, Moderators chat channel
delete all content on open whiteboards
see the live results of open polls
Click the purple button in the bottom right corner to open the Collaborate Panel.
Click the third tab which has an icon that looks like a box with a curved arrow pointing out of it.
Choose to share your screen, a single application window, or a specific chrome tab. If you will be playing audio-visual material (e.g. videos), be sure to select the box to share your audio!
Picking a more limited option helps prevent accidentally sharing content you didn't intend to (e.g. personal email), but
...may make it more cumbersome to move between content if you plan to share multiple windows.
The whiteboard is a feature that is somewhat unique to BB Collaborate Ultra compared to Webex or Zoom.
To open a whiteboard
Click the purple button in the bottom right corner to open the Collaborate Panel.
Click the third tab which has an icon that looks like a box with a curved arrow pointing out of it.
Select "Share Blank Whiteboard"
Is there a way to limit who can interact with the whiteboard?
No, all participants will be able to annotate the whiteboard and delete individual items on the whiteboard. Only the Moderators will be able to see the Erase button and delete the full whiteboard.
How do you create a poll?
Click the purple button in the bottom right corner to open the Collaborate Panel.
Click the third tab which has an icon that looks like a box with a curved arrow pointing out of it.
Select "Polling"
Create your poll question and share it with your participants.
Use the stop button (gray square in a circle, like a video stop buttom) to stop collecting responses when desired.
Unfortunately, BB Collaborate does not allow you to create polls in advance. If you have more complicated questions in mind, I suggest preparing them in advance, and working with a partner who can create and share the polls at the intended times.
Can you collect responses without showing the results to participants?
Participants can only see their response and will not see the results unless you share them.
Only moderators can see the polling results as responses are being collected. If you are co-presenting with someone, they will all be able to see the results.
Additional explanation is available on the BB Collaborate help pages.
