Greetings Rock County!
Diversity Action Team of Rock County with Janesville Performing Arts Center is organizing the first annual 'Rock County Get Together' to connect and celebrate our community and its stories!
The event will be Sunday, June 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Janesville Performing Arts Center (JPAC).
People and organizations will gather for family activities, music, and food! When we get together to have fun, we also learn more about each other. We hope you will consider being a participant to kickstart these connections!
Thank you in advance for your support.
We need you to help spread the word about how you, your family, your neighbor, your business or your community agency for how to participate. You do not need to be present on the day of the even to participate. We will be sharing stories in many different formats before, during and after the event.
They can include digital, audio and video, hands on activities or physical displays:
Create a favorite community song list
Share a family recipe with a photo and short description of how it is important to you (Click HERE for an example and who to send it to!)
Organize a photo display
And more!
Details will continue to be updated. Our education team is also happy to connect with you and discuss participation options and support you may need. We want all of Rock County represented!

As Chinese from Taiwan, Republic of China, being an immigrant has been an ongoing learning experience. I have learned to express humor in my interaction with people and to make fun of myself. American slangs, French and Spanish are always part of my learning. Bringing a lawn chair to concerts and wearing Green Bay Packers outfit show my way of Americanization. Thanks to the encouragement and invitations of many culturally interested people, I have been able to present the Chinese culture in various ways. American clogging dance has become my latest hobby. It is truly enjoyable to dance to music from different countries.
My great-grandparents immigrated from Poland, Germany and Ukraine (depending on what day you drew the border!). Pysanky are eggs decorated in an ancient wax-resist method, using melted beeswax and a tool called a kistka (basically a small funnel on a stick). Although many people call them Easter eggs, pysanky were made long before the countries of Eastern Europe adopted Christianity. I learned to make pysanky through the Polish Heritage Society of Madison and have been doing it for over 40 years. Although no one in my immediate family wrote eggs, I always admired them. Once I learned how to do them, it felt so right to be making them.
We hope you are our next community member. Learn more!
