Wood County's Economic Development Strategy
The Wood County Wisconsin Rural Economic Development Plan is a guiding strategy for economic success in Wood County.
The plan was completed in 2021 and remains relevant today through the implementation phase. Five teams, comprised of more than 100 stakeholders, meet regularly to make goal progress, project future needs, identify strengths, and address the existing barriers.
Identified Goals
The plan identified two overarching focuses - to develop a diverse and sustainable economy and to establish a vibrant and diverse community in which to live, grow, work, and play.
This vision can be achieved through the following goals:
Transform the economic development network to a collaboration economic development group.
Establish an entrepreneurial ecosystem in Wood County through increased support, communication and collaboration.
Ensure robust technology infrastructure exists throughout the county for residents and businesses including broadband, internet, and cell coverage.
Develop and implement a plan to ensure housing needs are met throughout Wood County.
Develop a branding strategy to let others know that Wood County is a vibrant and diverse community to live, grow, play, and work.
Support central place initiatives to provide one site that promotes arts, cultural assets, and entertainment in Wood County.
Develop a comprehensive countywide outdoor recreational trail/boat access/beach map to increase use and attract tourists and new residents.
Implementation
A cross-sector community collaboration with five teams comprised of more than 100 volunteer stakeholders.
In order to achieve the goals five implementation teams were formed. These teams meet regularly to work towards achieving the strategies and outcomes in the REDI plan. Click the links below to see the goals and meeting minutes of each team.
