What are we researching?
Blastomycosis is a fungal disease that affects dogs. When a dog is infected, blastomycosis can be found in many different parts of the body. Currently, about 1 in every 5 treated dogs is expected to relapse.
How can we find and describe these locations of infection? Why do dogs relapse?
Our study will use PET/CT, an advanced imaging method, to identify and describe sites of infection in the body. One scan will be done at the beginning of treatment, and a second scan will be done at the end of treatment, following a negative blastomycosis antigen test. Performing two tests will allow us to compare results over the course of the disease. We hope to investigate how PET/CT can be used to monitor treatment progress or even predict relapse.
