I am a Professor in the Risk and Insurance Department at the Wisconsin School of Business and the Data Science Institute at the University Wisconsin-Madison. I also hold the Charles and Laura Albright Professorship in Business and Finance. I am an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. I earned my Ph.D. in Actuarial Science, Risk Management, and Insurance, with a minor in Economics, from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
My research interests lie at the intersection of insurance and statistical learning, with a particular focus on developing analytical methods and data-driven insights to improve operations and decision-making in insurance companies and markets. My research has been published in leading journals across multiple disciplines, including statistics (e.g., Annals of Applied Statistics, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Journal of Business & Economic Statistics), econometrics (e.g., Journal of Econometrics, The Econometrics Journal), actuarial science (e.g., Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, North American Actuarial Journal, ASTIN Bulletin), risk and insurance (e.g., Journal of Risk and Insurance, Geneva Risk and Insurance Review), and business analytics (e.g., INFORMS Journal on Computing).
My research has been supported by Verisk Analytics, American Family Insurance, Casualty Actuarial Society, Society of Actuaries, Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, among others. In recognition of my contributions to non-life insurance research, I have received numerous awards, including the Charles A. Hachemeister Prize, the ARIA–CAS Research Paper Award, the Patrick Brockett & Arnold Shapiro Actuarial Award, the Ronald Bornhuetter Loss Reserve Prize, the CAS Ratemaking Prize, and the IAA Best Paper Award.
