MATH/ECE 842 — TOPICS IN APPLIED ALGEBRA 3 credits, Spring 2024. [Website]
This course will dive into the fundamental tools (algorithms and theorems) used in Applied Algebraic Geometry (AppAG). Algebraic Geometers will have AG presented in a new light, while those who are engineers/statisticians/scientists will get a concrete introduction along with numerous motivating examples including several connections to the SIAM Activity Group on Algebraic Geometry.MATH/ECE 842 — TOPICS IN APPLIED ALGEBRA 3 credits, Spring 2022. [Website]
This Applied Algebra topics course has a focus on Algebraic Statistics.
This course will cover several topics in statistics and data science from the perspective of applied algebra. The course is designed to be inclusive by introducing a new topic from statistics paired with a new technique from applied algebra. This way, those who have a background from either will be well prepared. Lecture material will be based on (1) the textbook Algebraic Statistics by Seth Sullivant and (2) discussions motivated by students' projects.MATH 234 — CALCULUS-FUNCTIONS OF SEVERAL VARIABLES (14024) 4 credits, Fall 21.
Introduction to calculus of functions of several variables; calculus on parameterized curves, derivatives of functions of several variables, multiple integrals, vector calculus. Enroll Info: NoneMATH 341 — LINEAR ALGEBRA (58548) 3 credits, Summer 2021.
The theory of linear algebra with an introduction to proofs and proof writing. Topics include vector spaces, linear dependence, span, basis, linear transformations, kernel, image, inner products and inner product spaces, geometry, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, standard matrix factorizations. Other content includes basic set theory, logical operations, quantifiers, direct and indirect arguments, and induction. Differential equations [Math 320] not covered.MATH 443 — APPLIED LINEAR ALGEBRA (46253) 3 credits, Spring 2021.
Review of matrix algebra. Simultaneous linear equations, linear dependence and rank, vector space, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization, quadratic forms, inner product spaces, norms, canonical forms. Discussion of numerical aspects and applications in the sciences.MATH 221 — CALCULUS AND ANALYTIC GEOMETRY 1 (60002) 5 credits, Fall 2020.
Introduction to differential and integral calculus and plane analytic geometry; applications; transcendental functions.Prior to tenure track appointment:
