It can be intimidating to sign up for a challenging conversation! Our goal is to share ‘what’ we do and ‘how’. Some important pieces to pay attention to during our conversation on are:
Here are some things you can expect at any conversation:
We'll start with a land acknowledgement. To learn more about land acknowledgements, click here.
Every conversation includes a discussion on what makes a brave and safe space.
We use a variety of participation methods. They include polls, annotation, breakout rooms, chat, screen reactions, open discussion, online engagement platforms like mentimeter or padlet, and probably more as we come up with them. Don't forget, the act of signing up, signing on, or turning on your camera are all types of participation. All ways you choose to engage are valuable.
Our goals for the conversation never change. We always seek to share our observations, ask questions, and identify strategies for learning and acting as we move forward.
We provide reflection questions and content ahead of time. Participants can explore as they wish. Some youth prefer to learn more about topics before they participate, but you don't need to study before participating. Conversations are about your observations, ideas, questions and goals for yourself. We are all in different places.
The zoom session is only one piece of the conversation. When you register or explore this site, you've already begun your conversation. We also send emails before and after sessions. Most importantly, we share resources. If you have resources you know you would like to share, please ‘bring’ them with you to the space. We hope you'll share your best resources here with us!
We will build in time for you to share your questions and experiences to enrich the conversation and provide opportunities for follow up and support from our community of participants.
The purpose of Current Conversations is to have a civil dialogue and share resources on topics that matter to youth in Wisconsin. It is not our goal to find 'right' answers nor to convince any participant to hold a particular point of view. It is our goal to support youth while they have difficult conversations that include many different perspectives.
