Vehicle detection and tracking is an essential part of problems in transportation networks as the development of automated driving systems, real-time surveillance systems, and Intelligent transportation systems. Since the key aspect of automated vehicles to deal with uncertainties in a complex traffic environment is to understand the intention of other vehicles. Any misinterpretation of other vehicle’s intentions will not only result in an uncomfortable ride due to unnecessary driving actions but also cause potential car accidents in the worst case.
Accordingly, automated vehicles need to accurately locate and track surrounding vehicles in real-time to ensure safety and smooth operation through the driving journey. And further driving trajectories analysis and prediction can be applied based on detected and tracked information. The emerging technology and future trend of automated driving motivate us to further develop relevant detection and tracking algorithms.
