Q: I’m not sure I’m positioned to participate in the Institute. Who is the ideal candidate?
A: We believe that the program is best suited for those who have some level of influence at their institution/ unit to initiate and sustain change; however the title of such individuals differs across institutions and varies based on the change initiatives one wants to pursue. Participants might include Deans who can leverage mentorship as part of their expected efforts to improve productivity, retention, and climate. Participants might include Dept Charis who are positioned to build structured, accountable mentorship systems that prevent recurring problems and stabilize performance. Graduate and training leaders might apply to support their efforts to build evidence‑based mentoring ecosystems that ensure consistent, equitable support for trainees across programs and advisors. The application asks participants not only to address what they hope to gain but also how their position/ role situates them to impact change. We also ask for a letter from campus leadership committed to support implementation of the plan each participant develops.
Q: A letter of commitment from institutional leadership is required. What should that include?
A: The letter of commitment should include a how participation in the CIMER INstitute connects to the institutional mission and should description of the types of resources (time, money, coordination, advocacy, etc) that will be made available to support implementation of all or part of the strategic plan developed in the CIMER Institute. We recognize that these are challenging times for institutions and that fiscal resources are strained; however priority will be given to applicants who can demonstrate some institutional commitment to advancing mentorship initiatives during and in the years following the Institute.
Q: The application has separate components. Is there a way I can view the application in full?
A: Yes, the full application text can be found here.
