During the Aspire Summer Institute (ASI), facilitators will guide participants in using Aspire's Inclusive Professional Framework for Faculty to explore ways to support faculty becoming more equitable in their practices in order to increase retention and success of URG students. Development of skills through this holistic professional development framework are transferable to your work at both the individual and organizational levels in your institution, for both faculty developers and institutional leaders.
As a result of engaging in the 2022 ASI, participants will:
Examine issues of equity in higher education such as identity, culture, intersectionality, systems of privilege and power, and more.
Do deep, personal reflection about their own social and cultural identities.
Develop an equity mindset that they can apply more intentionally in their interpersonal relationships with students and colleagues.
Explore the Inclusive Professional Framework through the lens of various faculty roles (e.g., teaching, advising, mentoring, leadership and colleagueship).
Consider how the framework can inform work with faculty to advance equity and inclusion.
Action plan with teammates to operationalize learning in both their individual roles, and at an organizational level.
As a result of engaging in the 2022 ASI, participants will be able to:
Build local institutional action plans
Learn about change leadership (e.g., identify relevant spheres of influence, institutional policies, allies, resources)
Explore connections with campus change entities and initiatives (e.g., Aspire IChange teams, past ASI participants)
Build community
Network during the ASI with peers from your institution and other IChange institutions
Continue to receive support in your effort after the ASI through an ongoing Community of Practice of past and current ASI participants
